Today I took my little cousin, who is 7 and a boy, to the store to get him a birthday present. I told him to choose whatever he wanted. He asked if he could get a “girl toy”. He wanted a Barbie. Which I thought no problem, its yours. But then I reconsidered and thought about how my family can sometimes be and how pissed his father was when he saw him doing Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” dance; So I suggested another toy, a “boy toy”. But that’s not what he wanted. He wanted a Barbie. He tells me he’s had one before but his little brother ripped the head off. I ask him again if he wants anything else, which I know he doesn’t but I have feeling he understood why I was asking so he just grabbed a Spiderman. When we got back to his house, his grandfather immediately asked him what he got. He did not want to answer. But eventually he did. His mother was not at all pleased, telling him that “you’re a boy, not a girl, you know you don’t play with those, you can’t have it”.

I love my family. But seriously, I just don’t know what to say to them sometimes. And will probably never be able to come out to them until I’m married. Force out.
